Springtime is full of fun traditions for families. Some of them are passed down while others are newly created, but they all give families the opportunity to connect and make memories. Many springtime activities center around the holiday of Easter when family and community events abound. Here are some fun Easter activities to share with your family. If you love the things you try this year, why not make them a tradition and make a point to recreate them every year?

Nature Walk

Spring is a time of new life, meaning that nature is louder, more beautiful, and more exciting than any other time of year. A simple and enjoyable way to celebrate Easter is to take a nature walk together. Point out the many different forms of new life you see, including plants, animals, and even bugs! Remind your child of the way things looked just a few weeks ago when the trees had no leaves and the ground was bare. If you want to learn more, take home a few lovely things you find on the ground, and look them up online to discover more about them.

Plant Flowers

Since Easter is in late April this year, the weeks surrounding it are a good time to plant flowers and other growing things. This is a great activity as a family since your children will be able to experience the plants growing and changing throughout the seasons. If you are planting flowers or vegetables outdoors, your children can help you weed, dig, and plant the seeds. Alternatively, if your only planting options are indoors, children are wonderful assistants in pouring soil and placing seeds or plants in their new homes. If you hope to plant things that will sprout quickly so your children won’t lose interest, try marigolds or zinnias and keep the seeds in a warm environment with plenty of light.

Dye Eggs

Another popular choice, dying eggs is a fun activity that even parents enjoy. For successful dying, be sure to hard boil your eggs well in advance (and away from children who could be burned). Once your eggs are cooled, the opportunities are endless. There are numerous varieties of egg dying kits, with many themes and exciting ways to make your eggs unique. If you want to try something different, you can make your own dyes from onion skins, cabbage, berries, and even spices. Simply search online for “natural egg dying instructions.” If you would like to try natural egg dying with assistance, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens is hosting egg dying events on April 13, 19, and 20.

Enjoy Local Events

One of the benefits of living in the Atlanta area is the number of Easter activities available. The Easter Bunny will be at the Mall of Georgia, along with other Easter-themed activities, on March 29 for the “Bunny Bash.” The Smyrna Community Center is hosting an “Evening with the Easter Bunny” on April 13 that includes inflatables, carnival games, and a showing of the movie Peter Rabbit. The Callanwolde Fine Arts Center is also putting on an Easter Event which includes music, dancing, face painting, and a visit from the Easter Bunny on April 20. And these are just a few of the family-friendly options! Be sure to check your local news sources for more opportunities.
